On July 29 and 30 at the Adler Planetarium, The House Band of the Universe will perform, Life Out There, a 90-minute live show that explores the question of life beyond Earth through energizing African-inspired jazz music. Performed in the Adler’s Grainger Sky Theater, the show will be accompanied by stunning, never-before-seen scientific visualizations on the Adler’s 70-foot dome theater.

The House Band of the Universe features renowned astrobiologist Dr. David H. Grinspoon and astrophysicist Dr. Ka Chun Yu, who will take audiences on an immersive musical and visual tour of the Universe.

Life Out There will combine the leading-edge technology of the Grainger Sky Theater, stunning visual effects based on real astronomical data and the critically acclaimed musical interpretations of The House Band of the Universe. Audiences will be fully surrounded in images that explore the origins and mysteries of the Universe with music specially composed and performed to match the visual experience. Original music composed for Life Out There expands upon musical melodies and rhythms from around the world including the rhythms and harmonies of Africa and Jamaica, as well as lusciously layered bass lines and brass harmonies in American jazz and funk.
