#KidsandKites
A favorite family event and a harbinger of springtime in Chicago, the 20th Annual Chicago Kids and Kites Festival presented by COUNTRY Financial returns to Cricket Hill in Lincoln Park (Montrose and Wilson) on Saturday, May 5, from 10am to 4pm. Admission is FREE.
In conjunction with the Chicago’s Year of Creative Youth, the City of Chicago will provide free kite kits, while supplies last, for children to get creative as they build, decorate and fly their own kites.
The Windjammers International Kite Team will once again be on hand to thrill the crowd with their synchronized kite flying maneuvers throughout the day, and festival goers can enjoy activities such as face painting, balloon artists and crafts. Chicagokite will also be onsite for kite buyers, and professional flyers will demonstrate their skills with oversized and uniquely-shaped kites.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel has designated 2018 as the Year of Creative Youth in Chicago, with a program opportunities for teens and young adults, cultural grants and convenings for youth arts organizations, a marketing campaign and more – representing an over $2 million investment by the City of Chicago. The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events is engaging the next generation of artists through programming at many of the City of Chicago’s events and festivals, including the Chicago Kids and Kites Festival. The Year will culminate with the Creative Youth Festival on September 22 in Millennium Park, showcasing teen artists in dance, theatre, music, spoken word, the visual arts and more. Details will be announced soon.
The 20th Annual Chicago Kids and Kites Festival is presented by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and COUNTRY Financial and sponsored in part by Chicago Tribune, CLIF Kid, The Boeing Company and Lifeway Kefir Foods.
