La Ciudad Mexican Cafe & Grill

Restaurant

4515 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60640

Uptown Chicago

Description

Established in 2009. La Ciudad means "The City" in Spanish. The concept behind the restaurant was inspired by the metropolis that is Mexico City, birthplace of owner, Hugo De La Rosa. With well over 8 million inhabitants, Mexico City, also known as "el D.F." (Districto Federal), is among the largest capital cities in the world and serves as Mexico's economic, industrial and cultural center. Its citizens are known for their wit and for being highly resourceful and ingenious. La Ciudad's logo has Mexico City's "Angel of Independence" on it, a monument symbolic of this autonomous city and its nonconforming citizens. The restaurant space is reminiscent of Mexico's flag, with its walls painted red, green banquettes that have white backs, and white chairs. The red walls showcase black and white images of Mexico City. Much like in Mexico City, there is something for everyone at La Ciudad - with dishes ranging all the way from sumptuous Camarones Rellenos down to the monumental Chilango Burger.
