Windy City Gridiron: For Chicago Bears Fans has new update
1 day ago Making Monsters: A Closer Look at Austin Booker
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports Taylor Doll talks with KU football beat writer Michael Swain about Bears' fifth-round draft pick Austin Booker. Taylor Doll did a fantastic job getting predraft prospect intel on her Making Monsters podcast, so now that we know the Chicago Bears rookie class, she’s focusing on learning more about the players. In her latest episode, she spoke with Michael Swain, who covers Kansas football for 247 Sports, about fifth-round pick Austin Booker. They discuss his path to KU from Minnesota and his emergence as a redshirt sophomore into a high-upside draftable prospect. Kansas wanted Booker to stay in school one more year to be one of the faces of the program, and if he did, he may have been a top-50 prospect in 2025, but the chance to play in the NFL was too much to pass up. “Because you’re talking about a guy that was a First-Team All-Big 12 defensive lineman,” Swain said of Booker’s 2023, “very well could have been a preseason First-Team All-Big 12 defensive lineman once again this year, and they tried to come at him with a good offer and the opportunity. I think he wanted to bet on himself again and go make that pro jump.” Booker bet on himself, and the Bears are banking on their ability to develop him into a viable part of the defensive end rotation and possibly more.
