About the Program:
This exciting talk will focus on Isamu Noguchi 1904-1988, furniture designer and artist, and George Katsutoshi Nakashima 1905-1990, furniture designer, and the Herman Miller and Knoll Companies and how they, the designers and the respective companies, interacted in the Mid-Century Modern Movement in the United States and how they - the companies and the artists - are still a potent influence in design today. There will be an examination of the designers' bios, their work, and how their involvement with those specific companies' leadership gave the designers a real presence in the design of the times which continues today.
About the Speaker:
Ms. B. A. Church is an accomplished interior design historian who taught at Harrington College of Design, a design school founded in 1931 by the New York interior designer, Frances Harrington.
